Rutgers Takes Down Princeton, 70-50

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (11-2) defeated the Princeton Tigers (6-3), 70-50, at the Louis Brown Athletic Center on Wednesday evening.

Sydney Jordan scored a career-high 11 points while Abby Meyers also registered 11 points. Meyers added six steals, five rebounds and three assists. Her six steals are tied for the second most in a game by a freshman in program history. Â Bella Alarie had 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in the loss.

A three-pointer by Tia Weledji put Princeton in front, 6-5, but the home team used a 7-2 push to go ahead, 12-8. Rutgers took an 18-11 advantage into the second quarter. The Scarlet Knights shot 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) in the first 10 minutes.

After a layup from Leslie Robinson at the 7:33 mark, Rutgers scored four straight points to jump its advantage to double-digits (25-15) as the clock ticked under three minutes to go. A bucket from long range by Alarie got the Tigers within five, but Tyler Scaife's three-pointer on the last possession made the score 30-21 at halftime.

Princeton scored the first two baskets of the third quarter, quickly leading to a Rutgers' timeout. The Scarlet Knights preceded with the next five points, continuing on a 13-5 spurt to push its lead to 13, 43-30. Treys from Meyers and Alarie got the Tigers back within single-digits (45-36), but Rutgers rolled off 14 consecutive points over the next three minutes to put the game out of reach.

Scaife had a game-high 24 points on 10-of-14 (71.4 percent) shooting. Jazlynd Rollins snagged 12 points in the victory. Rutgers was 27-of-49 from the floor (55.1 percent) in the victory.

Princeton will make the trip to Wagner on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on the NEC Front Row Network.
