Weledji's Career-High 22 Points Pushes Princeton Over Delaware, 78-60

PRINCETON, N.J. – Tia Weledji dropped in a career-high 22 points as the Princeton Tigers ran by the Delaware Blue Hens, 78-60, at Jadwin Gym on Saturday evening.

The senior captain was a sparkling 8-of-12 from the floor (66.7 percent) while Carlie Littlefield added 15 points, four steals and three assists. Leslie Robinson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Princeton's offense started off quickly, running off 11 of the first 14 points, leading to a Delaware timeout at the 4:34 mark. Following the stoppage, the Blue Hens got its offense rolling with six straight points to cut its deficit to two, 11-9. A trey from Abby Meyers and bucket from Robinson got the Tigers' advantage back to nine before Delaware got within six (19-13) as the quarter came to an end.

The road squad completed the first quarter and opened up the second frame with nine consecutive points to tie the game at 19-all with 7:58 left in the first half. The Tigers' offense would take over the rest of stanza, ripping off a 21-5 spurt. Princeton was 8-of-12 shooting (66.7 percent) during that span while holding Delaware to just two baskets. With the offensive fireworks, the Tigers took a 40-24 lead into the intermission.

Trailing by 15 after two free throws from Weledji (6:16), Delaware scored eight-in-a-row to close within seven (50-43). However, Princeton ended the quarter with a flurry with nine points in the last 1:20 including this crazy play from Littlefield….

Taylor Baur had a personal best seven points and grabbed six rebounds. Bella Alarie just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. She also dished out five assists and blocked three shots in the win. Princeton made 7-of-14 from beyond the arc, stole 13 passes and led for all, but 54 seconds in the game.

Nicole Enabosi had 22 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals for Delaware in the loss.

Princeton improves to 4-2 on the season as Delaware fell to 4-4. The Tigers will now head on the road for three straight contests. The Tigers will travel to Lafayette on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Blue Hens had one more push in them, not missing a shot (2-of-2, 4-of-4 from the free-throw line) during a 2:22 stretch to make the contest a nine-point affair (64-55).
