Princeton posted four victories and had five second-place finishes as it hosted Monmouth, Penn Rider and TCNJ at Jadwin Gym for the New Years Invitational this afternoon.
"The competitors in this meet were almost exclusively speed power athletes with the middle distance and distance crew off with the exception of Mel Reed in the 1000m," head coach Michelle Eisenreich said. "The goal of this meet was to continue building our competitiveness and team energy and we are very pleased with the results and with the competitive fire everyone brought to the competition. We won the 300m, 400m, long jump, triple jump, and Kennedy O'Dell was second in the weight and the shot with two PRS. We saw some really great things from our freshmen Kate Barnett in the triple, Allie Munson in the pole vault and Katie DiFrancesco in the 300."
DiFrancesco won the 300 with a time of 40.11 and was fourth in the 60 at 7.78. Senior Christina Walter was third in the 60 at 7.72 and then took fourth in the 300 at 41.44. Sophomore Ashley Willingham was sixth in the 300 at 40.88.
The Tigers went 1-2 in the 400 with junior Carly Bonnet grabbing the victory at 58.91. Freshman Sam Anderson clocked 59.19. They were the only two competitors to finish in under 60 seconds. In the 1000, senior Melissa Reed was the runner-up at 3:04.03.
Junior Ellie Randolph had a productive day winning the long jump and taking third in the 60-meter hurdles. Randolph won the long with a 5.69 (18-8), nailing the winning jump on her third attempt and then passed on her remaining three attempts. Princeton advanced three hurdlers to the finals with Randoph was third at 8.81, followed by senior Maia Craver in fourth at 8.84 and junior Frances Lodge at 9.25
Success in the jumps continued as freshman Katie Barnett won the triple at 11.58 (38-0). She lept to the mark on her first attempt and then jumped to 11.51 on her second attempt – which also would have won her the event. Freshman Kara Steele was sixth at 10.97 (36-0) on her final attempt.
Freshman Alexandra Munson was the runner-up in the pole vault clearing 3.50 (11-5.75) on her second attempt at the height. Senior Brittany Henderson was fifth clearing 3.35 (10-11.75) and junior Katlyn Rymarzow was sixth at 3.20 (10-6).
Senior Kennedy O'Dell was the runner-up in the shot put and was one two throwers to make it over the 14-meter mark as she landed the shot at 14.12 (46-4) on her fourth attempt. All six of her attempts were further than 13.23 – which was better than the fifth-place thrower. It was just off of her PR of 14.14 (46-4.75) that she had at the 2017 Indoor Heps.
O'Dell then claimed second in the weight at 18.69 (61-4). All of her throws were better than 17 meters and she hit the big mark on her final attempt after holding an 18.22. It was a tremendous improvement upon her PR of 18.44 (60-6) from last year's Indoor Heps.
"Overall, we're pleased with how things went and this performance will give us a lot of momentum going into the break," Eisenreich said. "When we return in January we have only about six weeks to prepare for Heps so we need to go home and prepare really well and come back ahead of where we are leaving off."
