The Princeton men's and women's track & field teams will compete at the Great Dane Classic on Saturday, Jan. 13 at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. The meet will be hosted by Albany University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., with the hurdles.
The women are competing for the second straight year at the Great Dane Classic, after winning the meet in 2017. Last year Princeton scored 151.5 points to defeat Albany, St. John's and Buffalo by more than 61 points. The middle distance crew grabbed 73 points between the 400, 500, mile and 1,000 meter events. The 4x400 relay won by more than four seconds and in the triple jump the Tigers earned 14 more points. Princeton also had wins in the pole vault and the weight throw. This will be the second indoor meet for the women's program, and the first of the calendar year. At the New Years Invitational in December, the Tigers had four wins and five second-place victories in a meet against Monmouth, Penn, Rider and TCNJ. The team focused on the field events and sprints, while giving the middle distance and distance corps a much needed break after cross country season.
The men are coming off a dual meet at Navy that saw Adam Kelly and August Kiles record facility records in the weight throw and pole vault, respectively. Overall the Tigers claimed 11 first-place finishes in the 18 events including: senior Josh Freeman in the 400 (48.76), freshman Sam Ellis in the 800 (1:52.80), senior Noah Kauppila in the 1,000 (2:25.74), sophomore Gannon Willcutts in the 3,000 (8:22.63), freshman Kevin Berry in the 5,000 (15:23.85), both the 4x4 and 4x8 relays, freshman Jeffrey Hollis in the high jump (2.06), Mitchel Charles in the weight (16.37) along with Kelly and Kiles.
