Tigers Compete For 3 Seed vs Trinity Before Hosting Howe Cup Championships
February 15, 2017 | Women's Squash
One week away from hosting the CSA Howe Cup Championships, which will be broadcast live via SQUASHTV, the fourth-ranked Princeton women's squash team will try to move up a spot in the rankings and carry some added momentum into the championship weekend by defeating third-ranked Trinity Saturday at 1 pm in Hartford.
Princeton and Trinity met twice late last season. The Tigers knocked off the Bantams in a 5-4 thriller to end the 2016 regular season, but Trinity bounced back for a 5-4 win in the third-place match at the Howe Cup. Both team have lost to No. 1 Harvard and No. 2 Penn during the regular season and have gone unbeaten against the rest of the field, so the winner will be assured the third seed for the Howe Cup draw.
Princeton enters Saturday with a trio of 10-match winners, including freshman Morgan Steelman, the only Tiger to post a 6-1 record in the Ivy League. Both Kira Keating and Kate Feeley have also won 10 matches, while three other Tigers (Alexandra Toth, Gabriella Garr, and Isabel Hirshberg) are nine-match winners.
The Tigers will enter the Trinity showdown on a four-match win streak, which started with a 5-4 win at fifth-ranked Yale. Depth was key in that win over the Bulldogs, as Princeton won 15 of the 17 individual games between the fifth and ninth positions.
Trinity enters the match with a 13-2 record, though it is coming off an 8-1 loss to top-ranked Harvard.
