Women's Squash Falls At Trinity, Will Host Howe Cup Next Weekend
February 18, 2017 | Women's Squash
Despite an impressive comeback win by freshman Morgan Steelman, the fourth-ranked Princeton women's squash team dropped its regular season finale 8-1 to third-seeded Trinity Saturday afternoon in Hartford.
The result assures that Princeton will enter the 2017 Howe Cup Championships as the fourth seed, and will likely face fifth-seeded Yale in the opening round. The Howe Cup will return to the Jadwin Squash Courts next weekend, and they will be streamed live for free on SquashTV.
The hosts grabbed control early with a sweep in the opening shift, but Steelman showed plenty of poise in her second-shift comeback win. She dropped both the first and third games to Salma El Defrawy, but she went extra points for a 12-10 win in the fourth, and she followed that with an 11-7 win to take the match.
The No. 1 match was another thriller between two of the nation's top players. Trinity's Raneem Sharaf won a 14-12 opener, but Princeton junior Olivia Fiechter battled back for wins of 11-6 and 15-13 to grab a lead. Sharaf rebounded at home for wins of 11-6 and 11-5 to take the match.

A couple of us had a tough time today adjusting to the international style of play that the Trinity girls use. In my match especially, I was having trouble keeping up with her unexpected shot choice. We have a good chance of facing the same opponents next weekend, so we will be sure to bring even more focus. Home court advantage won't hurt ether.

Trinity played well, and they were a bit too strong today. I think we could play better than we did today. Morgan played an outstanding match against a talented player.
