Men's Tennis Team Closes ECAC Championship With Win Over Dartmouth

Final Bracket
Third-place honors at the ECAC Championship went to the Princeton men's tennis team Sunday, which closed the tournament with a 4-1 win over Dartmouth.
"Dartmouth is a good team and well-coached, so this was a tough match, especially after a quick turnaround from last night's match," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "I was proud of the way we rebounded and finished off the tournament on a positive note. The guys did a great job of getting the edge early in singles matches after winning a very close doubles point. I was particularly pleased to see us gaining more confidence as the match wore on. This will certainly help us going into our upcoming schedule. It appears the weather will allow us to get outdoors this week for practice as we'll prepare for outdoor competition at the Blue Gray starting Friday."
The Tigers opened the tournament with a win over Harvard to advance to the semifinal, but Cornell tripped up the defending champion Tigers in Saturday's match. In its bid for third, Princeton won the doubles point when Jonathan Carcione and Tom Colautti outlasted Dartmouth's Diego Pedraza and Max Schmidt in a tiebreak at third, and three of the first four singles matches to finish went Princeton's way for the win. Jimmy Wasserman, Alex Day and Luke Gamble had the singles wins to get Princeton to four points.
Princeton will head to the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., next weekend. The draw has yet to be set, but the field includes Alabama, Auburn, Boise State, Rice, South Carolina, Texas Tech and Virginia Tech along with the Tigers.
Order of finish: Doubles: 2, 1, 3; Singles: 5, 6, 1, 3
