Samara Named Ivy League Coach of the Year

The William M. Weaver Jr. '34 Head Coach of Men's Track & Field Fred Samara has been named the 2017 Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Samara guided the Tigers to their 20th indoor title in program history, on Sunday, and third straight. The Tigers won five events this weekend, four individual events and one relay. In addition, there were 11 runner-up finishes by Princeton as the Tigers scored 147 points to edge second-place Cornell by 46 points.
Incredibly, it marked Samara's 39th Ivy League title in his illustrious career - winning four in cross country, 20 indoor and 15 outdoor. Since 2000 alone, Samara has won 16 Ivy League titles including three triple crowns (winning cross county, indoor and outdoor in the same academic year) in 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2014-15. In the last 24 seasons, Samara has taken the Tigers to either first or second place at Indoor Ivy Heps.
This is the third time Samara has been named the Ivy League Coach of the Year since the league started to give the honor in 2015.
