PRINCETON, N.J. – The defending Ivy League Champion, Princeton Tigers, get conference play underway as the Brown Bears (Apr. 2) and Yale Bulldogs (Apr. 3) come to Clarke Field this weekend.
The Week That Was:
- Despite a three-hit performance from Asher Lee-Tyson, the Tigers were topped by the Navy Midshipmen, 9-5, last Friday.
- Trailing 6-0, the Tigers put together a crooked number in seventh inning. Three straight singles loaded the bases with one out. Lee-Tyson followed with lining a base hit to right field, scoring two. The next hitter, Zack Belski, also came through with a two-run knock, cutting the Tigers' deficit in half. The Midshipmen got out of the jam with a strikeout and fielder's choice.
- Behind stellar pitching performances from James Proctor and Ben Gross, the Tigers registered two victories last Saturday. Princeton won 4-2 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
- In game one, Proctor retired the last seven batters he faced and allowed just one base runner to reach second base after the second inning. He scattered four hits in picking up his first collegiate victory.
- During game two, Gross went 6 1/3 innings, scattering six hits, allowing two earned runs. He struck out four hitters in picking up the victory.
- Navy rallied with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Tigers, 8-6, on Sunday afternoon. Navy earned a split in the four-game series.
- The Seton Hall Pirates defeated Princeton, 14-3, at Owen T. Carroll Field on Wednesday.
- Zack Belski had two hits including his first career triple while Cody Phillips also had two hits in the contest. Jesper Horsted had a RBI, run scored and a stolen base in the loss.
- Nick Hernandez is the only Tigers regular hitting over .300, sitting at .302. He has a team-best 19 hits and is tied for the lead in RBI (seven).
- Zack Belski has already matched his personal best with three home runs. His 28 total bases are the highest on the squad as are his 10 walks.
- Max West has dropped in a .320/.500/.520 slash line in 25 at-bats. He hit his first career home run last Saturday at Navy.
- The Tigers have had major contributions from its freshman class this season. David Harding has posted a .283/.327/.370 slash line with four doubles and three RBI. Conor Nolan has raced out to a .282/.364/.308 slash line in 12 games. Nolan has a team-leading six steals.
- Ramzi Haddad has the best slugging percentage on the team among qualified hitters (.442). He has five doubles, a home run and has added five walks and a stolen base.
- James Proctor has contributed a 3.70 ERA in four starts. He went the complete game vs. Navy last Saturday to pick up first career victory.
- Princeton's top three starters, Ben Gross, Chad Powers and James Proctor have amassed a 2.70 ERA. Gross sits with a 1.61 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings. Hitters are hitting .244 against the junior. A year removed from being the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year, Powers has a 2.70 ERA in four starts.
- Ryan Smith has been the Tigers' best reliever. In eight games, Smith has struck out 19 in 17 1/3 innings, picking up his first career save at Navy last Saturday.
- The Bears have won six of their last eight games after beginning the year with six consecutive losses. They have picked up victories over Bryant, Albany and Georgetown.
- Sam Grigo is top hitter among the Brown starters, posting a .310 average. In two games against Princeton last season, he went 2-for-7 with three runs and two RBI.

- In seven appearances, Samuel Hauser has not allowed a run in 8 1/3 innings.
- Christian Taugner is the best starter for the Bears as he has a 2.77 ERA in 26 innings.
- Yale is 5-1 over its last six games and is currently 9-10 this season. The Bulldogs have picked up wins over New Mexico State, St. Joseph's, Stony Brook, Wofford and Holy Cross.
- Tim DeGraw has been Yale's best hitter as he leads the team in average (.313), hits (25), runs (19) and stolen bases (eight). He was honorable mention All-Ivy last season.
- 60 percent of Griffin Dey's hits have been for extra bases. His six home runs and 20 RBI lead the Ivy League.
