Men's Tennis Team Extends Win Streak to Four With Twinbill Sweep
March 05, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Make it four wins in a row for the Princeton men's tennis team, which completed Sunday's home twinbill with a pair of 6-1 wins over Buffalo and Bryant.
"We had a good performance throughout the lineup," Princeton coach Billy Pate said of the Buffalo win. "We knew Buffalo would come at us hard. They have a strong team this year and are likely favorites to win their conference. I have the utmost respect for (Buffalo coach) Lee (Nickell), my former assistant at Alabama. He has done a tremendous job and has built a great culture with his program. It was nice to see us have some consistency on consecutive days as I feel that's one area we can improve."
The Tigers (8-6) took the doubles point with wins from Tom Colautti and Payton Holden at second and the nation's 13th-ranked pair of Alex Day and Luke Gamble at first after Buffalo (5-4) won the match at second, and Day, Colautti and Gamble followed with straight-set singles wins to get Princeton to 4-0 and the win. Kial Kaiser and Holden won their matches on the way to the 6-1 final.
Against Bryant (5-9), a doubles-point sweep preceded singles wins from Wasserman, Ben Tso and Holden to reach the clinching fourth point, and Jonathan Carcione and Davey Roberts provided two more wins to reach the 6-1 final.
"It was good to finish off a successful weekend in the second half of our doubleheader," Pate said. "We had a lot of positives from the three matches this weekend and will get back to work this week for one more homestand before spring break."
The Tigers will be back at it next Saturday for a home doubleheader at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. against NJIT and William & Mary. Princeton's indoor home matches will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network and live updates are available on the team's twitter feed @PtonMensTennis.
Order of finish: Doubles: 3, 2, 1; Singles: 2, 1, 4, 3, 6, 5
