Princeton Wins Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (4/1/17) - The Princeton men's track & field team won the 2017 Colonial Relays at William & Mary this afternoon. The Tigers earned 96 points to edge Rutgers by two points.
Princeton had the lead on day one, scoring 52 points in 12 events. Today the Tigers tacked on 44 more points in the field events and relays.
Sophomore Stefan Amokwandoh won the triple jump to give his team a 10-point boost. He was the only competitor to jump further than 15 meters as he leapt to a PR of 15.23 (49-11.75) on his fourth jump. Amokwandoh also had marks of 14.54 and 14.50 and now ranks 18th in the East Region.
In the high jump, senior Xavier Bledsoe placed third as he cleared 2.04 (6-8.25) on his first attempt at that height. Sophomore Andrew Diehl claimed sixth place as he made it over 1.99 (6-6.25) on his first try.
Senior Ben Gaylord grabbed five points in the pole vault as he took fourth place. He was over 4.70 on his first attempt and cleared 4.90 on his third try.
Senior Christopher Cook and junior Mitchel Charles, who were both scorers in yesterday's shot put, scored again today in the discus. Cook was sixth with a throw of 49.86 (163-7), coming on his third throw. He also reached 48.76, 45.99 and 45.47. Charles was seventh with a mark of 49.47 (162-4), coming on his fourth throw. He also reached 48.88, 47.22, 47.52 and 45.57.
The distance medley relay took to the track for the first time this outdoor season and finished third at 10:03.27. Freshman Perrin Hagge led off with the 1200-meter leg before classmate Justice Dixon ran the 400. Sophomore Franklin Aririguzoh took on his specialty, the 800, before Kenan Farmer closed with the 1600.
The 4x400 and 4x200 both finished sixth. In a rare running of the 4x200, the Tigers put up a time of 1:28.06 featuring freshman JC Colangelo, freshman Daniel Afolabi, senior Brent Albertson and freshman Joey Daniels. In the 400, freshman Michael Zupko, senior Jabari Johnson, freshman Connor Matthews and senior Greg Leeper posted a 3:16.97.
