April 11, 2017 | Men's Tennis
The Ivy League schedule for the Princeton men's tennis team started with the Ivy League's two ITA-ranked teams, Cornell and Columbia.
Both of those programs remain in the ITA top 25 this week, with Columbia at No. 20 and Cornell at No. 25. Princeton's objective this week is to begin the climb up the standings with five Ivy matches remaining. Columbia and Harvard are tied at 3-0 with Cornell and Dartmouth next at 2-1, Yale following at 1-2 and Penn, Brown and Princeton aiming for their first Ivy wins this weekend.
Saturday's match at Yale and Sunday's match at Brown are both 1 p.m. starts. The team's Twitter account, @PtonMensTennis, will have updates.
Yale opened the Ivy season last weekend with defeats at Dartmouth and at home against Harvard. The Bulldogs count Tyler Lu in this week's ITA rankings as the No. 62-ranked singles player in the nation.
Brown, too, had the same results against the same team, though with the Harvard match on the road and Dartmouth at home.
Princeton, which had Alex Day and Luke Gamble in the rankings again this week as the nation's No. 31-ranked doubles team, will be looking for its 10th win a row against each team, with the Bulldogs' and Bears' last wins in the series each coming in 2009 in New Haven and Providence.
Kial Kaiser enters the weekend as the Tigers' winningest singles player in dual matches on the season, standing at 9-6, while Day and Gamble, at 12-7, are Princeton's winningest doubles pair on the dual-match season.
After this weekend, the Tigers will have two more to complete the Ivy League slate, hosting Harvard and Dartmouth next weekend before Penn comes to campus April 29.
