April 12, 2017 | Women's Water Polo
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers jumped one spot to No. 9 in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Poll, the conference announced. Haley Wan was also honored as the CWPA Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in her career.
Wan's wonderful season continued as she posted three more hat tricks including two against ranked foes (No. 14 Indiana, then-No. 17 Hartwick) as the Tigers went 3-0 at Hartwick last weekend. The junior has scored a hat trick in 11 of her last 12 games and now has a career-high 59 goals. It's her second straight 50-goal season which leaves her tied for 10th all-time with 151 career goals. Not just a goal scorer, Wan added three assists and two steals vs. Brown. To finish the weekend, Wan registered four assists, two drawn ejections and one steal vs. Hartwick.
Princeton will finish the regular season vs. the George Washington Colonials on Friday at DeNunzio Pool (7:00 p.m.) The Tigers are locked into the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CWPA Championship (Apr. 28-30). No. 7 Michigan is the No. 1 seed while the Colonials are the only other team locked into a position as the No. 8 seed. George Washington is 13-14 this season and 1-6 in the CWPA. Princeton has never lost to its conference rival in 46 matchups all-time.
Stanford is now the new No. 1 team in the Varsity Poll after ending USC's 52-game winning streak last Saturday. USC is No. 2 while UCLA, Arizona State and Calif., follow. Michigan remains the top CWPA squad at No. 7.
Chelsea Johnson is second on the team in goals (39) which is a career high. Five other Tigers have registered at least 10 goals. Lindsey Kelleher leads the team in assists (31) while adding 21 goals and 25 steals. Eliza Britt has also nabbed 20 goals while contributing 27 assists, 25 steals, 16 drawn ejections and a team-high 16 sprint wins. Ashleigh Johnson is 19-3 with 258 saves and a .694 save percentage.
Friday's game will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
