Penn Nabs Two Wins Over Princeton

PHILADELPHIA – The Penn Quakers secured two more victories over the Princeton Tigers at Meiklejohn Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Quakers defeated the Tigers 17-5 in game one and 10-2 in game two.
Penn 17, Princeton 5
David Harding and Paul Tupper had two hits each for the Tigers. Tupper came in as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning and finished with three RBI.
The Tigers put runners in scoring position in their first two at-bats, but couldn't push across a tally. In the second, Matt McGeagh ripped a home run to left field that gave the home team a 1-0 advantage.
In the top half of the third, Nick Hernandez singled and stole second base before coming around to score on a Cody Phillips' RBI knock.
Penn retook the lead in the next half frame as Tim Graul lined a one-bouncer up against the right center field wall that let Chris Adams touch home.
The Quakers added on to their lead (3-1) with a RBI single from Daniel Halevy in the bottom of the fourth. Penn's Sean Phelan hit a two-run home run in the fifth, making the score, 5-1. Later in the inning, Halvey lifted a grand slam to right field that put the contest at 9-1. He finished with three hits and seven RBI. Phelan also had four RBI for the Quakers in the victory.
A Tupper RBI double and bases loaded walk from Asher Lee-Tyson made the Ivy matchup a six-run game (9-3) in the sixth stanza, but Princeton couldn't get closer as the Quakers had an eight-run home half of the stanza. Tupper had a two-run single in the last frame to wrap up scoring.
Penn 10, Princeton 2
After a fly out to begin the home portion of the first inning, the Quakers came through with four straight hits including a run-producing double from Sean Phelan and RBI knock from Tommy Pellis to make it 2-0.
Penn continue their offensive firepower with a three-spot in the second. With runners on the corners and one out, Tim Graul blooped a hit into right center that recorded another tally. The next hitter, Phelan, followed with another run-scoring knock while a throwing error made the score 5-0.
The Tigers' first scoring chance came in the third as they had two runners in scoring position with two out, but a fly out ended the threat. Penn amassed three runs in the third on a two-run double from Chris Adams and RBI knock from Graul.
Princeton got on the board in the fourth on a wild pitch and RBI groundout from Danny Baer. Penn tacked on with two more tallies in the fifth to complete the scoring.
Andrew Gnazzo pitched a scoreless two innings, striking out three in relief for Princeton. Jesper Horsted, Ramzi Haddad and Asher Lee-Tyson collected multi-hit outings. Graul had four hits, three RBI and three runs scored for Penn.
Princeton falls to 9-22 this season and 5-7 in the Ivy League. Penn improves to 18-14 and 8-4 in conference action. The Tigers will host the Rider Broncs in a non-conference meeting on Wednesday at Clarke Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
