Men's Tennis Team Completes Weekend Sweep, Defeats Brown 4-2
April 16, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Rallying from a doubles-point loss, the Princeton men's tennis team took four of the first five singles matches to end to complete a road weekend sweep by defeating Brown 4-2 in Providence.
Though Princeton got a win at third doubles from Jonathan Carcione and Tom Colautti, Brown took the other two matches for the afternoon's first point. The Tigers clawed back with straight-set wins at first from Colautti, at fourth from Kial Kaiser, at second from Alex Day and finally from Carcione at sixth to get to four points.
"Brown came out and played with a lot of energy in getting the doubles," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "Fortunately, we came out strong in singles, capturing five of six first sets. That swung the momentum in our favor, through Brown played hard and pushed us. It was a good battle and a gut check on the road for our guys. We're happy to get back to campus for a competitive three-match homestand to finish the regular season."
The Tigers will enter next Saturday's visit from Harvard a match and a half behind Harvard, Cornell and Columbia. The Tigers and Quakers have their head-to-head match in two weekends while the rest of the league will wrap up next weekend. The three remaining home matches will be played outside at the Lenz Tennis Center unless inclement weather forces play inside to Jadwin Gym. Admission to Princeton's home matches is free.
Order of finish: Doubles: 2, 1, 3; Singles: 1, 5, 4, 2, 6
