Eye on the Tigers
No. 6-ranked Princeton looks to rebound from an 18-12 loss at No. 10 Penn on Wednesday night. The Tigers are 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the Ivy League with Cornell and Columbia remaining on the league docket. Senior Olivia Hompe paces the offense with 50 goals and 19 assists for 69 points. She is second nationally in goals per game, and fifth in points per game. Freshman Tess D'Orsi has scored 32 goals and nine assists for 41 points, while junior Colby Chanenchuk has a team-high 28 assists and eight goals for 36 points. Junior Ellie McNulty and sophomores Kathryn Hallett and Elizabeth George each have 20-plus points. George and McNulty have won the most draws on the team with 24 and 23, respectively. Senior defenders Amanda Leavell and Madeline Rodriguez have each caused 16 turnovers and have the most ground balls on the team as well. Senior Ellie DeGarmo boasts a .550 save percentage, third best in the nation, and a 9.99 goals against average. She averages 11.92 saves per game, the second-most in the country.
The Series
Princeton holds an incredible 35-5 lead in the all-time series with Cornell since the teams first met in the 1980 season. Cornell snapped a five-game losing skid in the series with a one-goal win last year 10-9 in overtime in the Ivy League Tournament after Princeton had won 8-7 in the regular season. It was the first game in program history decided in sudden-victory overtime, since the NCAA rule change in 2016.
Scouting the Big Red
Cornell is ranked No. 12 in this week's IWLCA national poll with a 10-3 overall record. With a 5-0 Ivy League record, the Big Red control their own destiny in the league but will have to face two of the top teams in the league in Princeton and then Harvard next Saturday. Cornell is 1-2 in its last three games, falling to Syracuse on Wednesday and Albany the week before. They nearly went down at Dartmouth in a 14-12 game on April 15. Senior Amie Dickson leads the offense with 50 points, scoring 23 goals and a team-high 27 assists and is second on the team in draws with 26. Senior Catherine Ellis has scored the most goals, 29, while adding 12 assists for 41 points. Sophomore Sarah Phillips comes off the bench with 37 points, while junior Taylor Reed and senior Kristy Gilbert have 26 points apiece. Senior defender Catie Smith has the most ground balls with 38, while causing a team-high 28 turnovers. Senior Renee Poulott owns every decision in goal and has a .510 save percentage and an 8.14 GAA.
