Princeton's 4x800 relay won the college-level championship at the 123rd Penn Relays at Franklin Field. The Tigers recorded a time of 8:49.00 nearly four seconds ahead of the rest of the field, as second place Georgia Tech clocked an 8:53.56.
Senior Zoe Sims led off with a 2:11.01 before handing off to sophomore Anna Jurew. Jurew clocked 2:11.60 on the second leg before freshman Madeleine Sumner had a 2:13.19 on the third leg. Sophomore Jackie Berardo closed with a 2:13.21.
This is Princeton's second win at the Penn Relays this season, after senior Julia Ratcliffe won the hammer throw for a record third time.
On the campus of The College of New Jersey, Princeton competed in two field events, the pole vault and high jump.
Senior Allison Harris won the pole vault, clearing 4.03 (13-2.75) and being the only vaulter over 3.80. She passed on the first eight heights, which started with a 2.65, before taking her first launch when the bar was at 3.70. She cleared 3.70 on first attempt, then passed on 3.80, before clearing both 3.90 and 4.03 on her first attempts. Harris tried 4.13 but wasn't able to clear it on three chances. Harris' mark 4.03 is her best mark of the season.
Freshman Hadley Wilhoite was the runner-up in the high jump as she matched the winner with a 1.65 (5-5) on her final attempt. Wilhoite passed on 1.40 and 1.45 before she made it over 1.50, 1.55 and 1.60 on her first attempts at each. The 1.65 is her collegiate best and matches her personal best. Classmate Kayla Dobies was fifth with a mark of 1.60 (5-3).
Princeton will compete at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships next weekend at Yale. The Tigers have won nine Ivy Heps titles, their last in 2011.
