Tigers Win Seven Events and Make Marks in Records Book

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/8/17) - Junior Kennedy O'Dell was a double winner, claiming wins in both the shot put and the discus. She nailed a PR in the shot put with a 13.43 (44-0.75) on her final throw after sitting in second place with a 13.70. All five of her countable throws were over 13 meters. She then won the discus with a throw of 44.66 (146-6). Again, her best throw was her last as she surpassed her first throw by two inches.
The Tigers won two more field events with sophomores Kerri Davidson and Nnenna Ibe earning victories.
Ibe won the high jump at 1.65 (5-5), as she launched herself over the height on her second attempt. Sophomore Frances Lodge was third, clearing 1.60 (5-3) on her first attempt.
Davidson's jump of 11.81 (38-9) was the best in the triple. It came on her fifth jump, while she also hit 10.97, 11.80, 11.61 and 11.73.
Senior Ariel Becker posted a PR in the javelin of 39.59 (129-1) on her second attempt. It's the sixth-best throw in Princeton history. Becker later went on to take seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.37 (17-7.5).
Senior Elisa Steele won the 400 and freshman Devon Block-Funkhouser won the 400-meter hurdles to highlight the track events.
Steele bested 20 other competitors in the 200 as she clocked a PR of 55.29. That time is the fifth best time in program history. Freshman Ashley Willingham was third at 56.33 and freshman Heidi Baron was fourth at 57.16.
Block-Funkhouser finished the hurdles in 1:01.75 to beat out 16 other hurdles for her first collegiate win in her second time competing in the event. That time ties her for eighth all-time at Princeton in the event, along with LaDonna Gooden '90.
In the high hurdles, sophomore Ellie Randolph was third with a PR of 14.08, followed by junior Maia Craver who was fifth at 14.58. Randolph takes over third place from Lauren Barber '11 in the Princeton records book, outrunning her 14.13.
Junior Christina Walter won her heat and was third overall with a PR of 24.88 in the 200. It was the first time she ran under 25 seconds in the 200. She went on to run 12.27 in the 100 to take sixth.
A familiar face won the 800, as Cecilia Barowski '16 proved she is still lightning fast with a 2:05.26. Sophomore Jackie Berardo was fourth at 2:10.34 as the first of five Tigers in the top 10. Sophomore Anna Jurew had a great day as she posted PRs in the 800 and 1500. She had the sixth fastest time in the 800 at 2:10.42. She was followed in the 800 by senior Katie Hanss at 2:11.57, senior Zoe Sims at 2:11.98 and junior Ashley Forte at 2:13.15.
Junior Delaney Miller had the top time for the Tigers in the 1500 at 4:30.81. Three other Tigers made the top 10 with freshman Madeline Sumner posting a 4:31.69, followed by sophomore Anna Jurew's PR of 4:33.06 PR and senior Maria Seykora at 4:35.31 to take places 7-8-9.
In the lone distance event of the afternoon, Princeton's Melinda Renuart and sophomore Taylor Bacon went 2-3 at 10:28.09 and 10:52.16.
Heide Baron, Willingham, Craver and Steele had a nearly five-second lead on the rest of the field in the 4x400 with a time of 3:45.30.
