Givens Earns Ivy League, Suburban Transit/GPT Weekly Honors

Highlights: Abby Givens' Opening Weekend

Sophomore Abby Givens scored three goals in the Princeton women's soccer team's 2-0 start to the season over the weekend, and for that she's been named both the Ivy League Player of the Week the Suburban Transit/GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week.

Givens, an honorable mention All-Ivy League pick last year, scored three goals as a freshman in 2016 and equaled that with the last two goals in a 3-0 win over Monmouth Friday night and the first goal in a 2-0 win at Villanova Sunday afternoon.

The Ivy award is her first since being named Ivy Rookie of the Week on Oct. 3, 2016. She's Princeton's first Ivy Player of the Week winner since Mimi Asom won the honor on Oct. 31, 2016.

The wins put Princeton at 2-0 to start the season for the third straight year, and the back-to-back shutouts give Princeton two straight clean sheets to open a campaign for the first time since 2013.

Givens will be heading home to North Carolina as the Tigers face N.C. State, ranked 25th in the nation last week, and Wake Forest for a Labor Day weekend pair Friday and Sunday.
