Women's Squash Builds On Trinity Thriller, Opens Ivy Play With 9-0 Sweep Of Brown
January 13, 2018 | Women's Squash
The third-ranked Princeton women's squash team made sure it carried the momentum from Thursday's dramatic 5-4 comeback victory over #2 Trinity into Saturday's Ivy League opener. The Tigers swept through Brown for a perfect start in Ivy League competition and won 27 of 28 individual games in the 9-0 victory.
Princeton improved to 8-0 with a win that required far less drama than the one 48 hours earlier, when the Tigers rallied from a 4-1 deficit to knock off the previously unbeaten Bantams. The Tigers built a 4-0 lead with a perfect opening shift, and then closed the door quickly with five wins during the second shift, including an eighth win for All-America senior Olivia Fiechter at the No. 1 position.
The match of the day happened at the #3 spot, where Grace Doyle picked up her first career home win by a 3-1 score over Alexa Jacobs. Doyle led 1-0 before falling in a 17-15 marathon second game, but she came back strong to win a 15-13 third. She carried the momentum from that win to an 11-4 fourth game and the overall win.
Princeton will look try to complete the perfect week Sunday at noon when it takes on sixth-ranked Yale at 12 pm in Jadwin. The match will be streamed live on the Ivy League Network.
