January 27, 2018 | Field Hockey
STANFORD, Calif. – Cat Caro '17 earned her first international cap with the United States national team tonight against the No. 1 team in the world, The Netherlands.
Â
Caro was named to the U.S. national unit in November, giving Princeton two players on the squad (Kathleen Sharkey '13). Caro saw action as she came into the game early in the first quarter.
Â
Caro ended her Princeton career in impressive fashion as she was selected as first-team All-America, first-team Mid-Atlantic Region and Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year in 2016. She had a personal-high 18 goals and 47 points, registering a point in 15 of the team's 19 games. The senior captain finished the season eighth in the country in goals (.95) and 13th in points per game (2.26). Her standout performances include back-to-back hat tricks vs. Brown (Oct. 15) and Towson (Oct. 16). The two-time captain was remarkable against Ivy opponents, averaging over three points per contest with nine goals and four assists. Caro finished her career with three All-Ivy accolades, two All-Region honors and her first All-American award.
Â
The Netherlands and United States are playing in a four-game series at Stanford this weekend. The Netherlands earned victories in game one (4-0) on Thursday and (7-2) tonight. Sharkey recorded a goal for the United States in the loss. Game three is Sunday and Game four is on Tuesday.
