PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton gets Ivy League play underway as its travels to Philadelphia to take on the Penn Quakers at the Palestra on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network and can been seen on television on NBC Sports Philadelphia + (formerly the Comcast Network).
1,032 days. That's how long it's been since Princeton has dropped Penn. Here's a look at five things to watch out for this Saturday as the Tigers look to end a five-game losing streak against the Quakers ...
Penn's Struggles Stopping The Three-Pointer - The Quakers sit near the bottom in Division I in defending the three-point line (310th, 34.8 percent). Penn has given up at least four three-pointers six times this year including a current stretch of three-in-a-row. Princeton has made at least five treys in eight consecutive contests. Bella Alarie is the team leader in three-point percentage (41.9), followed by Carlie Littlefield (41.0) and Kenya Holland (35.7).
Â
Michelle Nwokedi - The 2017 Ivy League Player of the Year, is averaging 12.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. Prior to last year, Princeton held her under her career norms at 10.3 points on 37.8 percent from the floor (14-of-37). However, last season, the first-team All-Ivy selection averaged 13.6 points on 44.1 percent shooting, along with 10.3 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game in the teams' three meetings. Nwokedi was also named the Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Â
Eleah Parker - Parker has now scored in double-figures in six-straight games and currently ranks second in the Ivy League in field goal percentage, (51 percent). Parker is the leading scorer among all freshman in the Ivy League, averaging 10.8 points per contest. The three-straight Rookie of the Week awards are the most since Nwokedi won four straight during the 2014-15 season.
Â
Carlie Littlefield – Littlefield was held scoreless vs. Rutgers on December 13th, going 0-of-5 from the floor in 30 minutes. In the three weeks since, Princeton hasn't lost and the freshman has been sparkling. She has scored at least 10 points in each of the Tigers' four wins, averaging 11.5 points on 53.1 percent shooting along with 3.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals.Â
Â
Winning Vibes – In the Tigers' four-game winning streak, they have outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points per game. Head coach Courtney Banghart's unit is shooting 43.3 percent during that stretch and 31.1 percent from deep. Opponents have shot just 35.8 percent against Princeton and 25.5 percent from beyond the arc. Princeton's percentage during the streak would top the Ivy League while its opponent's percentage would be the lowest in the conference.Â
