Swimming & Diving Teams Open 2018-19 Friday In Boca Raton
October 31, 2018 | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving
The Princeton men's and women's swimming and diving teams will open their 2018-19 seasons this Friday at 3:30 pm in Boca Raton, Fla., to close their annual preseason training trips. Both teams will compete in tri-meets against host Florida Atlantic; the women will also face Florida Gulf Coast, while the men will also compete against Boston College.
The Princeton women are in their second season under head coach Bret Lundgaard, and the Tigers made a dramatic jump at the 2018 Ivy League Championships. The Tigers won two individual titles, as well as a dramatic comeback in the 400 free relay, and the team improved by more than 270 points from the previous season; the next closest team improvement was only 117 points. Princeton also broke two school relay records (200 medley/800 free) during the championship weekend.
Individual Ivy League champions Regan Barney (400 IM) and Joanna Curry (200 fly) return, as does Izzy Reis, who was part of both the winning 400 free relay and the record-setting 200 medley/800 free relays. A young diving corps, which includes NCAA qualifier Sine Scribbick, should also be a strong part of the upcoming season for Princeton, which will host the 2019 Ivy League Championships in DeNunzio Pool.
The Princeton men will be led by the senior duo of Cole Buese and Murphy McQuet, both of whom had strong showings when DeNunzio Pool served as host of the 2018 Ivy League Championships last February. Buese is Princeton's top returning scorer from the meet and a second-team All-Ivy honoree in the 200 fly, while McQuet earned All-Ivy honors in the 200 free relay.
The Tiger men also have a strong set of returning divers, including NCAA qualifiers Charlie Minns and Colten Young; last February, Young earned second-team All-Ivy honors on the 3-meter board and posted the second-highest score by a freshman in championship history.
There will be no live video or scoring for the upcoming meet, which will follow this format (two heats per event, with one in the 1650):
