Princeton Rallies Down 18, But Seton Hall Picks Up 70-66 Victory

PRINCETON, N.J. – Trailing by as many as 18, the Princeton Tigers stormed back to take a fourth quarter lead, but the Seton Hall Pirates secured a 70-66 victory at Jadwin Gym on Wednesday evening.

Carlie Littlefield registered a career-high 22 points, grabbing five rebounds, dishing out five assists and swiping three passes. Gabrielle Rush dropped in 18 points and was one board shy of her first career double-double. Sydney Jordan contributed 13 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the loss.

Seton Hall started off fast, running off the first 11 points of the contest. Princeton used a 10-2 spurt to close within three, but the Pirates finished the first quarter with the last seven points, to take a 26-14 lead after 10 minutes.

Princeton used a 7-0 push to close its deficit to five (26-21) as the second stanza got underway, but Seton Hall countered with 11 of the next 13, extending its advantage to 14, 37-23, with 3:06 left. The Pirates held a 44-30 halftime lead.

Trailing by the same margin as the clock ticked under four minutes, Princeton ended the third frame on a flurry. The Tigers missed two shots the rest of the way, going 5-of-7, scoring 11 straight. Princeton found itself, down by three as the fourth quarter was set to begin.
Littlefield was fouled on a three-pointer and sank three free-throws and Rush followed on the next possession knocking down a trey, giving the Tigers a seven-point advantage, 64-57, with 4:55 to go.

Seton Hall's Shadeen Samuels posted five points during a 60-second stretch including the game-tying layup, leading to a Princeton timeout with 41 seconds to go. Â After an offensive foul on the Tigers' possession, Nicole Jimenez snagged the game-winning layup with four seconds remaining. A turnover led to a Seton Hall basket on the final possession, giving the road team a hard-fought victory.

Samuels led the Pirates with 20 points while two others had double-figures for Seton Hall. The Pirates went 7-of-14 (50 percent) from the floor in the fourth quarter.

Princeton fell to 1-2 on the season while Seton Hall improved to 4-0 on the year. The Tigers get back at it on Sunday (Nov. 18). The game gets underway at 2 p.m. and can be seen on the Big Ten Network.
