Klimkiewicz Leads Princeton to 21st Place Finish at NCAA Championships

MADISON, Wisc. (11/17/18) - Senior Allie Klimkiewicz led the Tigers to a 21st place finish at the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships on a snow covered Zimmer Championship Course.
Sophie Cantine had the lead at the 2k split with a time of 6:45 and in 79th place. Alie Fordyce, Klimkiewicz, Melia Chittenden and Page Lester and Madison Offstein followed on a pace of 6:49-6:51 pace. Klimkiewicz moved up as the top Tiger at the 4k point with a split of 14:06 with Lester three spots and Cantine six back. Wagner, Chittenden were running as a pair at 14:16 while Fordyce and Offstein dropped back into the sixth and seventh spots for the squad.
Klimkiewicz proved she had more in the tank pushing ahead 12 more places in the final 2k to finish 93rd at 21:01.94. Lester came in at 21:09.69 for 113th place while Cantine, the top Tiger at Regionals, four places back at 21:12.35. Chittedenden, who led the Tigers at Ivy Heps, posted a time of 21:25.4 and freshman Gillian Wagner was the final scorer at 21:28.1. Offstein and Fordyce rounded out the group with times of 21:39.7 and 21:47.2, respectively.
"We had a great weekend at the NCAA Championships before, during and after the competition," head coach Brad Hunt said. "This entire fall has been a fantastic journey, in and out of the competitive arena, as we have grown so much as a team. The tremendous senior leadership and expectations, combined with the youthful talent and eagerness to achieve, propelled the program to national status. We look forward to building upon the foundation of success for seasons to come. This crew should be very proud of all they have accomplished."
Earning a ranking as high as No. 17 this season, Princeton was third at the Ivy Heps before finishing as the runner-up at the Mid-Atlantic Regional to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships.
