No. 14/15 Syracuse Secures Victory Over Princeton at Cancun Challenge

CANCUN – The No. 14/15 Syracuse Orange used a 31-12 run to end the third quarter to help secure a 92-61 victory at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya on Friday afternoon.
Gabrielle Rush led the Tigers with 15 points on five three-pointers. Her five treys matched her personal best. Carlie Littlefield snagged 11 points along with three assists, two steals while Neenah Young's 10 points were the most she's scored this season.
Matched up at 8-all, the Orange registered six straight points to gain the first separation of the contest with 6:05 left in the first quarter. Consecutive three-pointers from Rush and McKenna Haire closed the Tigers' deficit to one, 18-17, leading to a Syracuse timeout with 4:11 remaining.
The Orange sprinted out with the 12 points of the first frame, taking a 30-17 advantage after 10 minutes. The nationally ranked opponent maintained its distance, leading 49-34 at halftime.
A long-range bucket from Littlefield got the Tigers as close as 12 (51-39) just 1:44 into the second half, but the Orange ran off their big push to put the game out of reach.
Syracuse had four players in double figures led by Gabrielle Cooper's 20 points. The Orange shot 57.6 percent from the floor (34-of-59) and made 15 treys.
Princeton dropped to 1-5 on the season while Syracuse improved to 5-1. The Tigers finish off the Cancun Challenge tomorrow (Nov. 24) against Kansas State (11 a.m.).
