Cannady Drops 28 as Princeton Rains Threes on Maine
November 28, 2018 | Men's Basketball
Devin Cannady jumped two spots to 10th on Princeton's scoring list with a season-high 28 points as Princeton beat Maine 73-59 Wednesday night in Bangor, Maine.
Cannady's effort, which saw him go 7 of 10 from the field, 5 of 8 from 3 and 9 of 9 from the stripe, gave him his fourth-highest scoring game as a Tiger and most since his career-best 32 set Feb. 16, 2018 at Cornell. Overall, Princeton made a season-high 11 3-pointers with six players contributing to the total.
The Tigers broke open a 13-12 lead with less than 12 minutes before half by going on a 12-4 run that included 3-pointers by Devin Cannady, Ryan Schwieger and Myles Stephens, and from there, Princeton led the rest of the way and by as many as 19 points.Â
The win came against a Maine club coached by Richard Barron, who was Princeton's head women's coach for six seasons from 2001-07 and is still Princeton's third-winningest women's coach. Barron's wife, Maureen, was Princeton's softball coach for seven seasons and was a student-athlete at Princeton alongside Mitch Henderson for three years, from 1994-97.
"Big fan of his," Henderson, the Franklin C. Cappon-Edward G. Green '40 head coach of Princeton basketball, said of Barron. "He's so thoughtful. He asked me if we needed anything, and (that) just doesn't happen. I've never, ever seen it, ever, and I'm in 20 years in coaching. It says a lot about him and his team is reflective of that."
The .467 (21-45) shooting clip from the floor and .500 (11-22) from 3 were both season-bests for the Tigers, and Princeton got to the line 28 times to two for Maine.
"We made some shots. We shot the ball very well tonight," Henderson said. "We have the ability to really shoot. Pleased about that. Good road win."
Princeton will return home for a 4 p.m. tip Saturday against George Washington. It'll be Faculty and Staff Day, with Princeton faculty and staff getting four free tickets by showing a Princeton University ID at the door. The first 500 fans will also receive a free seat cushion.
