Individual victories by both Stephanie Nelson and Carolyn MacFarlane helped the Princeton women's swimming and diving team post an exciting final session at the 2018 Bruno Invitational. Though Brown took the weekend invitational, Princeton actually posted individual dual wins over both Brown (159.50-139.50) and Dartmouth (177-122) to improve to 4-0 in the Ivy League.
Princeton got a great individual start from Nelson, who won the 200 back in 1:57.88. Classmate Christie Chong added points in the team competition by placing third in the event in 1:58.82.
After a seventh-place finish by Cathy Teng in the 100 free (50.45), the tandem of Shaelyn Choi (2:17.33) and Karen Zhang (2:19.23) finished 4-5 in the 200 breast. Princeton got another strong duo performance in the 200 fly, as junior Elaine Zhou (1:59.71) and senior Joanna Curry (1:59.83) finished second and third in the 200 fly.
Princeton made a huge move in the 3-meter diving competition, thanks to a 1-2-3 finish that was highlighted by a winning score of 291.70 by senior Carolyn MacFarlane. Junior Mimi Lin finished second with 283.60 points, and sophomore Sophie Peifer finished with 276.45 points.
The quartet of Izzy Reis, Vivian Wang, Lauren McGrath and Cathy Teng rounded out the weekend by taking second in the 400 free relay in 3:18.96.
Princeton finished the weekend with 852 points, the second-best score of the meet. Brown won its home invitational with 992 points, while Villanova finished third with 683 points. Miami (467) and Dartmouth (420.5) rounded out the top five. The individual duals were scored by taking the times only of the events between Princeton/Brown and Princeton/Dartmouth, and Princeton came away with both of them.
Princeton will conclude the 2018 portion of its season Friday at 5 pm when it heads to New York City to compete against Columbia.
