DAY 2 RESULTS l DAY 1 RECAP
Both the Princeton men's and women's teams gained ground during Day 2 of the Bruno Invitational, held at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Tiger women swept both Saturday relays and added a 1-2 diving finish to get within 67 points of Brown, while the Tiger men added 49 points to their lead over Columbia with only one day remaining in the meet.
The Princeton women opened in strong fashion, as the quartet of Izzy Reis, Julia Brazeau, Elaine Zhou and Vivian Wang won the 200 medley relay in 1:41.13, which was more than a second faster than anybody in the field.
Sophomore Regan Barney, the reigning Ivy League champion in the 400 IM, was the top Ivy finisher in the event Saturday (4:16.11), which was good enough for second place overall behind Villanova's Kelly Montesi. Senior tri-captain Joanna Curry gave Princeton a third-place finisher as well in 4:18.50. Following a second-place finish by junior Elaine Zhou in the 100 fly (54.49), sophomore Lauren McGrath (1:50.14) and senior Monica McGrath (1:50.23) gave the Tigers a pair of top-six finishers in the 200 free.
Wang started a 4-5-6 finish for Princeton in the 100 breast in 1:03.10, while junior Gianna Garcia followed with a third-place finish in the 100 back in 55.36.
Princeton went 1-2 in the 1-meter diving event, with junior Natasha MacManus claiming a win with 261.75, just slightly ahead of senior teammate Carolyn MacFarlane (260.05). The Tigers ended Saturday just as they began it, with a relay win. The team of Reis, Lauren McGrath, Cathy Teng and Monica McGrath took the 800 free relay in 7:19.00, more than a second faster than Villanova's top time.
The Tiger men opened the Saturday session with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Cole Buese, Tyler Lin, Derek Cox and Christian Feiler finished in 1:28.55. Freshman Jonathan Pollack followed up with a second-place finish of his own in the 400 IM, as he dropped more than three seconds off his prelim time to take second in 3:52.61. Buese took third in the 100 fly in 47.78, while fellow senior co-captain Murphy McQuet took second in the 200 free in 1:37.02.
Senior Tyler Lin took second in the 100 breast in 55.20, and junior Sam Cuthbert took fourth in the 100 back in 49.09. Charlie Minns (395.90) and Colten Young (364.05) went 1-2 for Princeton on the 3-meter board, giving the Tigers key team points heading into the relay. The Tigers followed that by winning the 800 free relay, as the team of Charles Leibson, McQuet, Joshua Brown and Pollock took the race in 6:33.06.
All teams will return Sunday at 10 am for prelims, and then will compete in the final session at 5 pm.
