Princeton Cruises By New Hampshire, 90-42

DURHAM, N.H. – Princeton never trailed for a second straight contest, running by the New Hampshire Wildcats, 90-42, at Lundholm Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Bella Alarie led the way with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting (66.7 percent). The 2018 Ivy League Player of the Year swatted four shots and dished out three assists. She is four blocks shy of tying the program record set by Ellen DeVoe '86 (157). Taylor Baur had a career-high 12 points, making five baskets. Gabrielle Rush dropped in 12 points, making four treys, adding five assists. The bench recorded a season-high 50 points in the win.

The Tigers started off quickly with the first seven points of the game and nine of the first 11. Princeton registered an 11-5 push in the second portion of the quarter to take a 25-13 advantage after 10 minutes. The road squad went 10-of-16 from the floor (62.5 percent) in the frame with six different players scoring.

Princeton's defense shined in the second quarter, allowing three baskets and nine points as it ran its lead to as many as 25. The Tigers went 8-of-13 in that stretch and finished the first half with their best shooting half of the season (18-of-29, 62.1 percent). Head coach Courtney Banghart's group led 45-22 at the intermission.

New Hampshire never got within 20 in the second half. In the fourth stanza, Princeton would give up only two buckets. The Tigers forced 21 turnovers, outscored the Wildcats 44-18 in the paint, and outrebounded the home unit, 39-29. Ashley Storey led New Hampshire with 14 points in the loss.

Princeton's 48-point decision is its largest margin of victory since a 107-44 win over Wagner on Dec. 21, 2016. The team's 90 points are also the most its scored since that contest against Wagner.

Princeton has now won seven consecutive contests to improve to 8-7 this season. Under Banghart, the Tigers have recorded a seven-game winning streak in each of the past 10 seasons. Ivy League action gets underway next Saturday (Jan. 5) at Jadwin as Princeton takes on rival Penn at 2 p.m. These two teams have combined to win the last nine Ivy League titles with the Tigers taking home six of them.
