The Princeton women's track & field team couldn't have asked for a better opening to the New Year's Invitational as sophomore Katie DiFrancesco set the school record in the 300 at 39.44.
DiFrancesco led off a 1-2-3-4 Princeton finish in the 300 as she surpassed teammate Ashley Willingham for the fastest time in Princeton history. Willingham, who now ranks second with a 39.91, was the runner-up this afternoon at 40.44. Freshman Isabella Hilditch clocked 40.75, the eighth fastest time in program history and junior Heide Baron ran a 41.33. All four 300 meter runners hold a top-10 spot.
Freshman Emma Daughtery won the high jump in her first collegiate competition with a 1.70 (5-7). It puts her tenth all time at Princeton. She opened with a 1.52 and cleared the next four heights. Junior Hadley Wilhoite was ninth with a 1.52 (4-11.75).
In the pole vault, freshman Hanne Borstlap claimed the win with a mark of 3.75 (12-3.5) clearing it on her first attempt. She opened with her first attempt a clearance of 3.45. Her mark of 3.75 is the seventh best in program history. Sophomore Alexandra Munso PR'ed and took third with a 3.55 (11-7.75).
Proving her consistency in the shot put, sophomore Obiageri Amaechi hit 15.66 (51-4.5) twice to take first place. She was nearly six meters further than the next competitor as she moves into third all-time at Princeton. That throw puts her fourth in the nation. Amaechi also had throws of 15.16 and 14.47. Sophomore Julia Harisay moved into ninth all time with a mark of 13.20 (43-3.75). She also had throws of 12.71 and 12.19.
Senior Ellie Randolph qualified for the finals of the 60 with a 7.98 in the prelims but did not start the final because of her long jump competition. Randolph was the top collegian in the event with a 5.59 (18-4.25) just off her PR. She also had marks of 5.49 and 5.29. Freshman Kasja Souter was fourth with a 5.43 (17-9.75) and also had marks of 5.26, 5.24, 5.22, 5.07 and 5.04.
"It was a great way to cap off a terrific fall semester for us. Between what cross country accomplished – making nationals, runner-up at regionals to four first meet and carrying it through to this week," head coach Michelle Eisenreich said. "We're really excited to get the season going in January and have so many things to look forward to."
