Princeton Drops Close Contest to Navy, 89-83

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Navy Midshipmen picked up an 89-83 dual meet win over the Princeton Tigers at Jadwin Gym on Sunday afternoon.
Mim Buscher dominated the mile run, winning by almost four seconds (5:05.08). The Tigers had four runners in the top five as Katherine Leggat-Barr (5:09.44) was second, Sierra Castaneda (5:12.01) ran fourth and Marie-Fee Breyer (5:15.61) was fifth.
Hanne Borstlap cleared 3.92 (12-10 1/4) in the pole vault, matching the fourth best mark in indoor history, earning the top mark against Navy. Alexandra Munson scored two points for the Tigers, placing third (3.60, 11-9 3/4).
Katie DiFrancesco sprinted to a 7.66 in the 60m dash, the fourth fastest in program history, breaking her personal best by .12 of a second.
Kajsa Souter (8.92) paced the 60m hurdles field to add five points for Princeton. Frances Lodge was fifth (9.49), giving the Tigers a point.
Jackie Berardo paced two other Navy runners with a 1.17.39 in the 500m. She was second at the 300m mark, but ran by Navy's Bronte Bacchetta over the final 200m to win the contest.
Sophie Cantine (2:13.10) just finished ahead of her teammate, Madison Offstein, (2:13.20) as the duo were 1-2 in the 800m. The next Navy runner was eight seconds off their pace.
Laura Hergenrother cruised to a win (2:58.09) in the 1000m event, finishing close to three seconds ahead of the next runner. Three other Tigers (Peyton Brown, Emily Philippides, Clare Martin) placed in the top five.
The Tigers had three runners in the top five in the 200m dash as Ashley Willingham's 25.69 was good for third.
The 4x800m group of Peyton Brown, Clare Martin, India Weir, Emily Philippides snagged five points with a time of 9:35.74.
Isabella Hilditch, Heide Baron, Ashley Willingham, Carly Bonnett (4x400m) ran a time of 3:51.72, more than two seconds quicker than the Navy group.
Kerri Davidson had the second-best long jump at 5.37 (17-7 ½). Kara Steele (5.18, 17-0) and Katherine Barnett (5.03, 16-6) were in top five, placing fourth and fifth respectively.
Princeton produced three of the top four high jumpers, paced by Souter (1.65, 5-5). Frances Lodge finished third (1.55, 5-1) and Lindsey Schmidt was fourth (1.55, 5-1).
The Tigers continue the indoor season next Saturday (Jan. 12) at the Navy Invitational.
