Olivia Fiechter Named A Finalist For Prestigious Richey Award
February 14, 2018 | Women's Squash
The winner of the award is determined by a vote of both coaches and players—each varsity team may cast one coach vote and one team vote. The Richey awardee will be announced on the Sunday of the women's team nationals, February 18, 2018.
Fiechter joins Laila Samy (Wesleyan) and Raneem Sharaf (Trinity) as the 2018 finalists.
Fiechter, who dealt with significant injuries over the last two seasons, enters the upcoming Howe Cup weekend with a 13-1 record, including a 6-1 mark in the Ivy League. Among her biggest victories on the season was a 3-1 win over Sharaf in Princeton's 5-4 comeback win over Trinity, which helped the Tigers reach the #1 ranking for the first time since the 2013 season. Princeton would eventually relinquish that spot to Harvard, though Fiechter shined again that day with a five-game thriller over Sabrina Sobhy.
First introduced in 1984, Princeton has had x recipients of the Richey Award: Demer Holleran (1989), Hope MacKay (1992), Julia Beaver (2001), and Katie Giovinazzo (2012).
