Saturday's Princeton Invitational was the Tiger's last indoor meet before the 2017 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships next weekend. While many Tigers took the meet to rest, those who competed came out strong with seven first-place finishes and two personal bests.
The Tigers dominated the 60m hurdles in numbers and finishes, with sophomore Joey Daniels finishing in the lead at 7.99. Behind him in third was junior Sebastian Silveira at 8.44 and senior James Burns in fourth at 8.74.
In the 60m dash, senior Carrington Akosa placed first with a time of 6.75. Sophomore Daniel Afolabi finished close behind him with a personal best in third at 6.88. Sophomore JC Colangelo and senior Max Schwegman also competed in the race and placed sixth and ninth.
Junior Brennan O'Connor, freshman Austin Carbone and sophomore Justice Dixon were the only runners in the meet's 300m race, but managed to push each other. This was the first time O'Connor and Carbone ran this event in a collegiate meet, finishing in 35.58 and 35.66, respectively. Dixon finished in third of the Tiger pack at 36.05.
The majority of the Tigers who competed in Saturday's meet ran in the 800m race. Sophomore Perrin Hagge ran 1:57.18, seniors Ramon Ayala and Eric Schulz ran 1:59.04 and 2:00.28 and freshman Joe Sartini ran 2:00.48 to get the 4-5-6-7 place finishes. While the Tigers didn't have many competitors in the track racing events, Princeton dominated in the field events with first place finishes in all but two events.Â
Junior Adam Kelly won the weight throw with a 21.73m (71-3.5) toss. Senior Mitchel Charles threw 18.72m (61-5) in the same event to take third and Gabe Acarco threw 15.11m (49-7) for seventh place. Charles went on to win the shot put after clearing 17.23m (56-6.5) with freshman Kelton Chastulik third with a 16.48m (54-1) throw.Â
Freshman Jeff Hollis and junior Andrew Diehl went 1-2 in the high jump, clearing 2.08m (6-9.75) and 2.05m (6-8.75m) respectively. This was a personal record for Diehl, who beat his last PR from HYP by just .01m.
