UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (2/4/18) - The Princeton women's track & field team finished in fourth place with 79.5 points at Penn State's Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup.
"While the Harvard Yale Princeton meet last week was focused on team score, this weekend's meet at Penn State was focused on individual needs," head coach Michelle Eisenreich said. "We used the two-day meet to practice racing back to back days like we will at Heps. We ran three DMRs on Friday night and then came back with individual races on Saturday. We're very pleased with the splits from the DMRs and it showed we will have a number of strong legs in both the DMR and 4x800 going into Heps. On Saturday, we had great races in the 600 from Jackie Berardo and Anna Jurew and our 800m runners ran well too. Needless to say, we're feeling confident in our middle-distance group. Our distance group and throwers had the weekend off to train and rest. Ellie Randolph had a great race in the hurdles and our short sprinters had another solid meet highlighted by Christina Walter's PR in the 200m. This meet also gave our horizontal jumpers a chance to compete back to back days as well. They long jumped on Friday and came back to triple on Saturday for some solid marks. Overall, we're really happy with our results this weekend and we look forward to tightening things up further at FastTrack next Friday."
Senior Christina Walter and freshman Katie DiFrancesco both qualified for the final of the 60. Walter ran the third best prelim time at 7.72 and went on to finish fourth with a 7.74. After a 7.85 in the prelims, DiFrancesco shaved off time in the final with a sixth-place finish of 7.82. The pair went on to race in the 200 with Walter taking third with a PR of 24.41 and DiFrancesco seventh at 25.07 in a event over 20 competitors.
Junior Ellie Randolph was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.73 after qualifying with the third best time in the prelims of 8.62 - also a personal best. Randolph claimed fifth place in the long jump as well with a 5.55 (18-2.50).
Junior Kerri Davidson had a fifth-place finish in the triple at 11.83 (38-9.75) while sophomore Kayla Dobies was third in the high jump clearing a PR of 1.65 (5-5).
Sophomore Ashley Willingham had the best time in the 400 at 57.82 for sixth place
In the 600 juniors Jackie Berardo and Anna Jurew went 3-4. Berardo posted a 1:32.76 while Jurew clocked 1:33.65.
In the 800 it was another junior duo that had the top times for the Tigers. Allison Glossinger finished fifth with a PR of 2:14.41 while junior Madison Offstein was sixth at 2:14.65.
The 4x400 of Samantha Anderson, Devon Block-Funkhouser, Carly Bonnet and Willingham took second place to Penn State 3:47.32 to 3:50.45.
The Tiger had four teams in the DMR with Delaney Miller, Bonnet, Sophie Cantine and Peyton Brown posted the best time of the four at 11:33.88 to take second place overall.
