Princeton Moves To 12-1 With Columbia Win, Will Honor Seniors Sunday
February 09, 2018 | Women's Squash
Kira Keating will join classmates Olivia Fiechter and Natalie Tung as the honorees on Senior Day this Sunday in Jadwin, and she made sure she went into that match on a dramatic high. Keating rallied from 2-0 down with three tight games to post a 3-2 comeback win to highlight Princeton's 7-2 victory over Columbia.
The second-ranked Princeton women improved to 12-1, 5-1 in the Ivy League, and remained perfect against Columbia with the win in New York City. The sixth-ranked Lions, a potential first-round opponent for Princeton depending on the result of their Sunday match at Penn, pushed the Tigers in several matches, but Princeton was able to grab a lead in the opening shift and keep the advantage all night.
Freshman Grace Doyle helped set the tone with a tightly contested 11-8, 11-8, 11-9 win at the #3 position over Nicole Kendall. Doyle, who battled early-season injuries and returned in time to help Princeton's Ivy chase, has made big strides recently and could play a vital role in next week's Howe Cup Championships in Boston. Classmate Emme Leonard scored a 3-1 win at #6 to make it 2-0 Princeton, and then all attention went on Keating, who dug out of a big hole with wins of 11-9 and 11-7, and then clinched her ninth win of the season 11-7 in the fifth.
Junior Samantha Chai scored a 3-0 win at #4, while Fiechter, Isabel Hirshberg and Madison Soukup added 3-1 wins Friday.
Princeton will host Columbia Saturday at noon in a two-shift match that will be streamed live on the Ivy League Network.
