Flynn Continues Hot Hitting, but Richmond Picks Up A Comeback Win Over Princeton

RICHMOND, Va. – Joseph Flynn continued his hot hitting to begin the year with a home run and three RBI, but the Richmond Spiders (12-8) rallied for a 7-3 victory over the Princeton Tigers (2-10) at Pitt Field on Monday afternoon.

The junior is now hitting .362 on the season with three home runs, 12 RBI and a slash line of .362/.404/.574. Jesper Horsted and Taylor Beckett added two hits each in the loss.

Richmond took an early lead on a RBI groundout from Tim Miller in the bottom of the first.

Conor Nolan led off the second frame with a double and touched home two pitches later on the four-bagger from Flynn. Chris Davis began the third inning with a single and moved to third on a base hit from Horsted. Flynn knocked in Davis on a hit to left field.

In the fourth, a wild pitch got Richmond within one before run-scoring double from D.J. Mills tied the contest at 3-all. The Spiders took the lead, one at-bat later, on a RBI single from Sage Bruhl.

The home squad put together a three-spot in the sixth stanza, extending its lead to four, 7-3. Daniel Brumbach laced a RBI knock to right field, followed by a sacrifice fly and run-producing single from Kyle Adams.

Princeton got a runner in scoring position in the seventh, but couldn't push across a run.

The Tigers will begin Ivy League play this weekend at Clarke Field as the Harvard Crimson come to town. Two nine-inning games will take place on Saturday (Mar. 24) beginning at 11:30 a.m. The series finishes with one contest on Sunday (Mar. 25) starting at 1 p.m. Stay tuned to GoPrincetonTigers.com for weather updates for the series.
