Princeton Drops Season Opener To UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCW Seahawks (6-3) defeated the Princeton Tigers (0-1), 11-1, at Brooks Field on Friday afternoon.
Five different players had a hit in the game for Princeton including Sy Snedeker's first career base hit. Eli Kimbell allowed just one earned run in three innings of relief, striking out six. The Princeton's pitching staff finished with 12 strikeouts in the game.
UNCW's Cole Weiss's solo home run to left center field got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning. The Seahawks added on in their next at-bat with a six-spot, highlighted by five consecutive hits including two home runs. A fielding error and two-run single gave the home squad its 9th and 10th runs of the game in the fourth frame.
Princeton's lone run came in the top of the eighth inning. Ramzi Haddad led off with a single and moved to second base on a passed ball. Two batters, he touched home on a RBI knock by Snedeker.
Princeton and UNCW get back at it tomorrow with a double-dip beginning at 12 p.m. Ryan Smith and Andrew Gnazzo will be on the mound for the Tigers.
