UCF Tops Tigers on Spring Trip
March 23, 2018 | Men's Tennis
The doubles point went the way of the 46th-ranked Princeton men's tennis team, but singles play did not as host No. 40 UCF defeated the Tigers 6-1 Friday night at the USTA complex in Orlando.
Princeton will conclude its Florida trip Sunday at noon at Florida Gulf Coast.
"We played a great doubles point, but simply didn't back it up with better execution in singles," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We started clawing back and made a push, though we never quite got over the hump. The margins were close and this was a great opportunity that I feel we let slip away. We'll plan to bounce back and be ready Sunday."
Doubles play saw the Princeton pair of Luke Gamble and Damian Rodriguez defeat the seventh-ranked pair of Korey Lovett and Eero Vasa in a tiebreak, 7-6(3), and Diego Vives and Jimmy Wasserman clinched the point with a win at third doubles.
UCF then won three singles matches in straight sets before a three-setter at first for the clincher.
