No. 22 Princeton Defeats No. 15 Wagner, 9-7

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Using hat tricks from Chelsea Johnson and Haley Wan, along with a sparkling 14-save performance from Marissa Webb, the No. 22 Princeton Tigers (5-5) took down the No. 15 Wagner Seahawks (7-5), 9-7, at Blodgett Pool on Saturday.
The Highlights:
The Tigers registered the first two goals of the fourth quarter to go in front, 9-5.
Princeton never trailed after the 1:28 mark of the first stanza.
The Recap:
Trailing by a goal, Amy Castellano evened the contest at 2-all with 1:28 left in the first stanza. Johnson and Wan snagged the first two tallies of the second quarter as the Tigers raced out to a 4-2 advantage. Wan's second goal with six seconds remaining gave Princeton a 6-4 lead at the break.
Webb and the Tigers' defense allowed just one goal in the third frame and held Wagner scoreless for over eight minutes. In that streak, Princeton jumped ahead, 9-5, with 3:08 to go. The Seahawks closed within two but were kept off the scoreboard over the last 2:37 of game action.
Today was Princeton's first victory of the season over a ranked opponent. Head coach Becca Dorst's squad has won five straight games. The Tigers complete the Crimson Invitational on Sunday against No. 18 San Jose State (8 a.m.) and the University of Toronto (10:40 a.m., exhibition). Both matches can be seen on the Ivy League Network.
