Distance Runners Impress at Raleigh Relays

Results
Senior Garrett O'Toole quickly proved that he will be a force in the 5k this season as he helped kick off the Raleigh Relays with morning event. In his first time running the event outdoors, O'Toole posted a 14:06.13, the sixth best time of the 149 competitors. He was third in section 6 with split times of 34.53, 1:08.85, 1:09.02, 1:08.02, 1:07.47, 1:07.53, 1:08.58, 1:08.74, 1:07.78, 1:09.45, 1:09.89, 1:06.52, 59.79.Sophomore Conor Lundy was 10th overall and fourth in section 6 with a time of 14:07.99, a ne w PR. He had split times of 34.91, 1:08.82, 1:09.21, 1:08.21, 1:07.62, 1:07.97, 1:08.16, 1:08.76, 1:07.55, 1:09.42, 1:10.00, 1:06.24, 1:01.38.Also placing in the top 25 was freshman Matt Grossman, taking 23rd at 14:18.76.

The 1500 saw 118 competitors with assistant coach and Olympian Robby Andrews rabbitting the race for seniors Noah Kauppila and William Paulson. The trio made up the leaders in the race with Kauppila sticking right behind Andrews in second place through 1100 meters before slipping back on the final lap to take seventh at 3:47.27. He had split times of 44.95, 1:00.20, 1:01.18, 1:00.95. Paulson was third through 700 meters, dropped back into eighth on the next lap and finished out with a 3:47.81 with split times of 44.90, 1:00.64, 1:02.58 and 59.69 to remain in eighth place. Overall Kauppila had the eighth fastest time out of 118 runners, while Paulson sported the 13th fastest time. Senior Zachary Albright put up a PR at 3:50.20 and freshman Sam Ellis ran 3:50.31 as both finished in the top 25.

Freshman Ed Trippas was 14th overall in the steeplechase with a time of 9:12.41. He had split times of 38.54, 1:11.08, 1:12.81, 1:12.05, 1:14.63, 1:16.41, 1:15.03, 1:11.88. Sophomore Perrin Hagge was 19th at 9:16.34 with splits of 38.84, 1:10.90, 1:12.92, 1:12.43, 1:14.28, 1:16.39, 1:16.14, 1:14.47.
