Princeton Welcomes Penn To Clarke Field For Crucial Ivy Stretch

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers continue their homestand this weekend against their biggest Ivy rival, the Penn Quakers, this weekend at Clarke Field.
The two squads will play one game on Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m. Each game will be streamed on the Ivy League Network. Princeton comes into the matchup at 7-14 overall and 4-2 in the Ivy League. Penn is 8-18-1 this season and 3-5-1 in the conference. The Quakers swept the Tigers in four games last season.
What Did You Miss?
- A nine-run second inning proved to be the difference as Seton Hall defeated Princeton, 28-8, at Clarke Field on Wednesday.
- Princeton took two out of three from the Brown Bears over weekend, earning 7-4 and 4-3 victories on Saturday.
- In game one on Saturday, Chris Davis finished a double shy of the cycle and hit his first career home run.
- After his four-game hitting streak came to an end in game one, Jesper Horsted busted out with three hits in game two. Taylor Beckett had two RBI and a home run while Alex Dickinson added two RBI. Ben Gross struck out seven hitters over six innings to earn the victory while Tanner Kliewer punched out five in the final three frames to nab the save.
- A six-run sixth inning on Sunday allowed Brown to escape the series with a 12-0 win.
- Over the past week, Horsted has led the team with a .313 average and .429 on-base percentage. Since Mar. 16, the outfielder has raised his average 122 points.
- Davis has slugged .526 over the past five games. The lead-off hitter has scored 17 runs this season and has touched home in 13 of his last 16 games.
- Asher Lee-Tyson leads the team in hitting at .307 in 75 at-bats along with a team-best .424 on-base percentage. His 11 walks are tied with Horsted for the highest on the squad. Davis and Conor Nolan have totaled 10 free passes each.
- Taylor Beckett is slugging .467 in 45 at-bats. Five of his 12 hits have been for extra bases.
- Eight different players have at least 20 total bases while six hitters have at least five RBI.
- The Princeton pitching staff is averaging 8.8 strikeouts per nine innings with Smith, Gross, Kimbell, Kliewer and James Proctor all averaging over 9.0 per nine innings pitched.
- Smith has allowed two earned runs in three of his five starts this season with 27 strikeouts in 24 innings.
- Gross has piled up 20 strikeouts in his last three starts. He's allowed three earned runs or less in last four appearances.
- The Tigers have five saves in 2018 with Kliewer posting three and Kimbell picking up the other two. The two have combined to give up three earned runs since Mar. 9.

- Barnes completed his first full season with the Blue Jays, posting a 3.55 ERA in 60 outings of the bullpen. He had 62 strikeouts in 66 innings, earned three victories and finished 13 games for the Blue Jays.
- Seven other alums, Ross Ohlendorf '05 (Japan), David Hale '11 (AAA), Jack Murphy (AAA), Mike Ford '14 (AAA), Alec Keller '14 (AA), Cameron Mingo '16 (A) and Danny Hoy '16 (A), played professional baseball last season.
- This year, Bowman and Barnes have combined to allow one earned run in their last 11 appearances.
- David Hale and Mike Ford are playing together with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (AAA).
- The Quakers are 8-18-1 this season with wins over Northwestern State, USC Upstate, Fairleigh Dickinson, Brown, Dartmouth, Villanova and Harvard.
- Eduardo Malinowski leads the Quakers in hitting (.333). Matt McGeagh has been the team's best power hitter with 10 extra-base hits.
- Brendan Bean has been the squad's best reliever at 0.84 ERA. He has 15 strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings. Dylan Mulvhill has appeared in the most games (12) and sits with a 1.93 ERA.
- Gabe Kleiman is Penn's best starter with a 4.17 ERA in 45 1/3 innings. He has 44 strikeouts in his eight games despite his 0-5 record.
