No. 15 Columbia Defeats Princeton
April 08, 2018 | Men's Tennis
It'll be a split on the weekend for the Princeton men's tennis team after the Tigers followed up their win over No. 47 Cornell Friday in Princeton with a 4-0 defeat at No. 15 Columbia Sunday.
The Lions won the first two doubles matches off court to claim the afternoon's first point and did the same with the first three singles matches to end before the match was halted with Columbia's win clinched.
With the loss, Princeton fell to 1-2 in the Ivy while the Lions won their third in a row overall to complete their Ivy-opening weekend with a sweep to stand at 2-0 in the league.
"Columbia played a good match on their home courts," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "I thought we were very solid in doubles but didn't win critical points. We had chances in singles play in certain positions and really needed to grab some first sets to regain momentum. Kial (Kaiser) was turning his match around, as was Davey (Roberts). Luke and his opponent (Jack Lin) were playing some great tennis and it would've been interesting to see that one play out. Unfortunately, Ryan (Seggerman) tweaked his back late in the first set and wasn't the same. We'll learn from it and look forward to a good week of practice before our home stand next weekend with Brown and Yale."
Princeton will have its final regular-season home matches next weekend when Yale visits Saturday and Brown visits Sunday, both for 1 p.m. matches. Both teams are 0-2 in the league after dropping their Ivy-opening matches to Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend.
Doubles
1. #40 Lin/Matheson (Columbia) def. Gamble/Rodriguez (Princeton), 6-4
2. Ambrozy/Michal Rolski (Columbia) def. Holden/Seggerman (Princeton), 6-4
3. Rian Pandole/Tang (Columbia) vs. Kaiser/Diego Vives (Princeton) 5-4, unfinished
