Results
Princeton won two events on Day 1 of the IC4A Championship and picked up 28 total points to sit in second place after nine events have been scored.
The 4x100 relay has been setting records all season and this meet was no exception. The Tigers posted a sub-40 second time for the first time in Princeton history with a 39.90, the fourth fastest time in Ivy League history. The Tigers have changed up the four legs a few times this season, this time finding success with junior Charles Volker, sophomore Joey Daniels, freshman Austin Carbone and senior Carrington Akosa. The 4x100 this season has posted three of the top five times in Princeton history with Daniels and Carbone being in all three relays.
Â
Junior Adam Kelly won the hammer throw in the first event of the day, with a 70.98 (232-10) on his final attempt. Four of his throws would have won him the title. After opening with a 61.55, he improved with a 66.63 before gaining even more ground on his third attempt at 70.69. After a foul, he nailed 70.86 and 70.98. Kelly's PR of 71.92 (235-11) from Sam Howell ranks him seventh on the NCAA East Regional descending order list, which has assured him a qualifying spot in the NCAA East Regional.
Another PR came in the 5k from junior Jeremy Spiezio. He clocked 14:11.87 (2:54.49, 5:40.57, 5:37.82) – shaving three seconds off his previous best to take second place.
The IC4A continues at Weaver Stadium tomorrow.
