The Princeton women's track & field team will contend for the 2018 Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championship this weekend, May 5-6 at Franklin Field.
The Tigers have won outdoor Ivy Heps nine times, the last win coming during Princeton's triple crown season in 2010-11.
The meet begins on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., with the first event of the heptathlon. The women will have the bottom half of Saturday's schedule with the first field event at 2:30 p.m., the hammer throw, while the first event on the track is the 100 hurdle trials at 2:30 p.m. Both days action will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network and ESPN+, Saturday beginning at 12:45 p.m., and Sunday at 11:45 a.m.
SPRINTS & HURDLES
Senior Christina Walter, who was a scorer in both short sprints indoors, has the best time for the Tigers in the 100. She has the fourth-fastest time in the 100 in the league with a PR of 11.91 from the Texas Invitational. She also ranks 11th in the league in the 200 at 24.46. Freshman Katie DiFrancesco will challenge as well, as she sits eighth in the league with a 24.26. DiFrancesco also has the second-fastest time on the team in the 400 this season at 56.68. Only sophomore Ashley Willingham has a faster time at 56.54. Willingham was a scorer in this event last spring.
Junior Ellie Randolph enters the weekend with the third-fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles. She clocked a PR of 13.68 earlier this season, and took fourth in this event in 2016. Senior Maia Craver is also a contender with a 14.45. Craver will most likely compete in the heptathlon as well.
Princeton has two solid options to both score in the 400 hurdles. Sophomore Devon Block-Funkhouser has the fifth best time in the league at 1:00.94 and senior Carly Bonnet is eighth with a 1:01.53. Both have scored in this event in the past, Block-Funkhouser taking sixth last year and Bonnet fourth in 2016.
MIDDLE DISTANCE & DISTANCE
In the 800, juniors Anna Jurew and Jackie Berardo both look to score for the second straight season. Jurew, who was fourth last spring, has a season best 2:09.39 and a PR of 2:07.65. Berardo, who was the runner-up last spring and indoors, has not competed in the 800 this season but owns a PR of 2:07.46.
Junior Alie Fordyce has the fastest time this season in the 1,500 at 4:26.72 to rank in the top 10 in the league. Junior Madison Offstein and sophomore Sophie Cantine aren't far behind at 4:27.54 and 4:28.07. Both are also capable of scoring in the 800 as well.
Princeton has four legitimate contenders in the steeplechase. Junior Allie Klimkiewicz has the best time this season with a 10:33.84. She was fifth at Heps one year ago. Junior Brighie Leach has been battle tested in the event as well and has a top-10 time of 10:35.17. Freshmen Katherine Leggat-Barr and Peyton Brown are other contenders, with times under 12 minutes.
In the longer distances races, Princeton will have the option of utilizing the Ivy League cross country champion Gabi Forrest. She was third at indoor Heps in the 5k and has a PR of 16:28.03 in the event. Klimkiewicz could double as well, as she has the best time this season in the event with a 16:38.97. Freshman Melia Chittenden isn't far back at 16:45.87, as is senior Melissa Reed at 16:52.97 – both top 15 in the league. Senior Megan Curham is an option as well. She won both the 5k and 10k in 2015, and was a third and second in 2014.

The 4x800 looks to repeat as champion again this year. The Tigers lost two of the four legs to graduation but have depth to fill those slots. In the 4x400 Princeton will most likely utilize DiFrancesco, Willingham, Block-Funkhouser and Bonnet. That group had the best time this season at 3:47.05. DiFrancesco, Walter, Randolph and sophomore Heidi Baron will most likely comprise the 4x100 relay and they have a top time of 46.48 this season.
