Princeton Tops Columbia 17-7 in Ivy League Semi to Advance to Championship

The reigning Ivy League Women's Lacrosse Tournament Champion Princeton is heading back to the championship game as the Tigers posted a 17-7 win over No. 4 seed Columbia in the Ivy League semifinal on Friday night at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.

The 10-goal win is the largest margin of victory in the Ivy League Tournament.

Kyla Sears who is the all-time freshman point scorer in Ivy League history became the all-time goal scorer today. With 57 goals this season, she now sits in first place with Amanda Walton of Yale from the 1999 season. This evening she net four goals and two assists. With 57 goals, Sears now sits second in Princeton history with goals in a season behind Olivia Hompe's 75 from last season.

Senior Colby Chanenchuk reached the Century Club with the assist on the team's first goal, becoming the 33rd player in Princeton history to reach 100. She finished her evening with three helpers to currently sit 31st all-time in scoring.

Sophomore Tess D'Orsi, who is also closing in on 100 points, with 96, scored four goals as did senior Ellie McNulty. Junior Elizabeth George had a career-high 11 draws, blistering her previous best of seven, while scoring three times. The draw control battle was imperative tonight, and the Tigers came out winning 17 of 26.

No. 15 ranked Princeton (11-5) jumped out to a 10-goal lead, highlighted by three goals in 46 seconds. The defense did not allow a goal until 1:20 remaining in the first half. The Tiger defense limited Columbia (6-10), making its first ever Ivy League tournament appearance, to just 15 shots with freshman goalie Sam Fish stopped five in the win.

The second half was back-and-forth scoring affair but Columbia would only get within seven after a 5-2 run through the first 16:48 to make it 13-6. Sears put away goal number 57 on the season at 10:35 before Columbia's Lindsey Ewertson finished off a feed from Fallon Quinn.

McNulty scored back-to-back goals in a span of 1:41 and Elizabeth George finished off the scoring burying a Sears feed.

Ewetson and Orna Madigan both scored twice, while Victoria Kalamaras had two goals and one assists. Kelsey Gedin made 10 saves, and with her final save of the game became Columbia's all-time leader in saves with 533.

Princeton will face Penn for the third time in the Ivy League championship game on Sunday. The teams have both beaten each other one time in the title tilt, Princeton in 2015, Penn in 2014.
