No. 14 Princeton Sweeps Opening Weekend, Tops Boston U 1-0
August 26, 2018 | Women's Soccer
One weekend, two games, two wins for the 14th-ranked Princeton women's soccer team as the Tigers head back to campus from their season-opening trip to New England.
Mimi Asom's goal less than seven minutes into the second half helped lift the Tigers to a 1-0 win Sunday at Boston University two days after Princeton beat New Hampshire in the Tigers' season opener.
Friday night's game ended UNH's season-opening two-game winning streak, but Sunday, Princeton faced a Terrier team looking for its first win of the season after dropping its first three games of the new season, all on the road and all by one or two goals.

The venue changed for Boston U, but the result did not. Emily Hilliard-Arce had a deep throw-in for Princeton in the 52nd minute, finding Asom just inside the 18-yard box. Asom then backed down her defender, turned and fired it inside the left post for what turned out to be the game's only goal.
Unlike Friday night, when Princeton outshot UNH 21-2 overall and 11-0 on goal, the Terriers had the advantage Sunday, outshooting Princeton 12-7 overall and 7-4 on goal. In the second half, Princeton was able to outshoot the Terriers 3-2 overall, including the one shot on goal that counted. Natalie Grossi made seven saves to earn her second shutout in as many starts.
The Tigers will return to campus for the team's home opener Friday night at 7 against Saint Joseph's. It'll be a matchup of unbeaten teams as the Hawks improved to 3-0-1 with Sunday's 2-1 win at James Madison.
Postgame Notes
Senior Mimi Asom's goal was her 33rd of her career and gave her 74 career points. She's eighth in points, with Diana Matheson '08 seventh at 78, and sixth in goals, with Jen Hoy '13 fifth at 36.Â
Junior Natalie Grossi picked up her 17th career shutout as she looks to become the third player in Tiger history to hit the 20-shutout mark. Kelly O'Dell '84 holds the career record with 23.Â
Princeton is now 6-2-2 all-time against Boston University. The teams met for the first time since the Terriers opened Roberts Stadium in 2008.
Three Tiger freshmen have now started games, with Gabi Juarez and Emma Davis starting against Boston U after Caroline Noonan did so against New Hampshire.Â
