Princeton Outlasts Rider on Colvin's Game Winner in Double OT
September 19, 2018 | Men's Soccer
The Ivy League Player of the Week Jeremy Colvin scored his third consecutive game-winning goal, this time as Princeton outlasted Rider 1-0 in double overtime on Wednesday night at Cohen Field.
The walk-off goal came in the 108th minute off of a corner kick taken by senior Bryan Prudil. Prudil played the ball perfectly to the right post, where sophomore Richard Wolf got his right foot on it and pushed it to Colvin for the tap in.
"I wanted to put it in a dangerous area and it got there and we did well to win that second ball," Prudil said. "It was all about fight this game and I thought that carried through on that set piece at the very end and we're really happy about that."
The Tigers outshot the Broncs 17-10, with a 4-3 differential in shots on goal.
The team's best chance in the first half was a shot taken by junior Cole Morokhovich in the 13th that hit the cross bar and bounced back out onto the playing field.
In the 61st minute freshman Moulay Hamza Kanzi Belghiti played a back-heel ball to senior Sean McSherry and he found sophomore Gaby Paniagua on the left side, but a diving stop by keeper Pablo Gatinois kept things even.
Paniagua had another opportunity in the 93rd minute when he put a header on goal, but Gatinois put a glove on the ball and played on.
Princeton keeper junior Jacob Schachner made three saves in the game, his first off a Rider restart in the first half and two within a four-minute span- his best effort cutting off the angle on a shot by Elliott Otmani who had just settled a long ball.
Princeton now 4-3 on the season and 3-0 in its last three games, will be in action next Tuesday night when it hosts Loyola at 6 p.m., in the final game before the Ivy League season begins.
