Greyhounds Halt Tigers' Win Streak in 1-0 Game
September 25, 2018 | Men's Soccer
A goal by Loyola in the 85th minute ended Princeton's three-game win streak on Tuesday night on Sherrerd Field on a rain drenched evening.
Davey Mason played in a ball from the sideline in front of his team bench into the box where Sam Brown got a header on it and sent it past a diving Jacob Schachner for the eventual game-winning goal.
Princeton had two early shots on goal, the first a little more dangerous than it appeared as keeper Chase Vosvick bobbled a low rolling shot taken by Princeton's leading goal scorer Jeremy Colvin. A minute later freshman Moulay Hamza Kanzi Belghiti tested Vosvick but he kept things moving. Defender Bobby Hickson had a shot glance off the crossbar in the 31st minute - seven minutes before Loyola had its first shot on goal - one collected by Schachner.
The pace picked up immediately in the second half with both teams threatening early keeping Schachner and Vosvick busy for the final 45 minutes.
Colvin had a chance to make it 1-0 Tigers in the 72nd minute when Vosvick was out of position and off the bench Ryan Clare provided a spark and nearly had an open chance at the net before a defender blocked his attempt to score.
Loyola had a 17-9 advantage in shots, with Vosvick and Schachner making four saves apiece. Corner kicks were even at 4-4.
Princeton opens Ivy League play on Saturday, hosting Dartmouth at 1 p.m., on Myslik Field.
