Princeton, Dartmouth Play to Scoreless Draw in Tigers' Ivy Home Opener
September 29, 2018 | Women's Soccer
Though the Princeton women's soccer team outshot Dartmouth nearly 10 to one Saturday evening on Sherrerd Field at the Class of 1952 Stadium, the Tigers and the Big Green played to a scoreless draw in Princeton's Ivy home opener.
The final overall shot total was 29 for Princeton, three for Dartmouth, with 10 of Princeton's shots on goal. None, however, got past Dartmouth keeper Mariel Gordon, who made nine saves, and the Big Green defense did the rest, including a defender-made save in the first half.Â
Princeton's shutout streak continued to 310 minutes, putting together three straight shutouts. Two of those three went the distance, along with a 0-0 tie against Drexel on Sherrerd Field two Sundays ago.Â
With the shutout, junior Natalie Grossi moved closer to second place on Princeton's all-time list with 21 career shutouts, one behind Jordan Rettig '01. Grossi is just two behind Kelly O'Dell '84, who holds the Princeton record with 23.Â
Princeton ended the night tied for second in the Ivy at 1-0-1 with Penn, Dartmouth and Harvard, two points back of 2-0 Columbia.
The Tigers will play their final non-conference game of the regular season on campus Tuesday at 7 against Bucknell.
